Ningaloo Reef Trip Reports
April 2013
2013 has been our best year yet with every tour departing and guests leaving Shore Thing amazed by the beauty of Ningaloo. We've been able to share this amazing marine environment with plenty of new guests and also welcomed back numerous repeat guests who have just had to come back to get their "Ningaloo Fix!"
The highlights have been coming thick and fast (so fast we haven't been able to keep you up to date!). In this one 5 Day April trip alone we encountered over 60 reef sharks and over 50 turtles, not too mention scuba diving and snorkeling on 4 different historic shipwrecks. We hope you enjoy this short highlight reel from the trip and to stay even more up to date with our trips follow us on Facebook and seen more images from our tours.
6th April 2013 Highlight Reel
Spectacular sunsets and sunrises, huge marine turtles, millions of reef fish dancing in front of your eyes and freshly prepared gourmet food is what you can expect to experience whilst exporing the Ningaloo Reef with the friendly & experienced crew of Sail Ningaloo.
September 2012
So Spring has arrived and the weather is warming up again and we have been blessed with both the best marine wildlife of the winter and also the burst of new life in spring. Our tours during August and September have seen many whales still, with the inner reef during August resembling a Humpback whale nursery more than anything else with mother and calves seen consistently resting and feeding. Highlights in August and September (both of which can be seen in the latest video here) were a mother and calf circling our tender, a pod of 100 (or more!) false killer whales, over 100 turtles on the 'Green Mile', and having the oppurtunity to explore the 124 year old shipwreck of the 'Benan'. A big congratulations also goes out to Amanada and Becca for completing their PADI Open Water certification whilst aboard Shore Thing.
July 2012
Wow! It's winter but the Ningaloo Reef is anything but in hibernation. The reef is truly teeming with life as the southern hemisphere Humpback Whale migration migrates it's way north. On some days we are literally seeing a hundred or more whales and we've had some amazingly close encounters with whales seen whilst scuba diving and whales coming in and circling the boat. We've seen whales breaching and frolicking and we have even been privledged to see a number of young new born calves.
Whales can certainly grab one's attention but there has still been plenty of other things going on. We've had turtles gorging themselves on some lion's mane jellyfish that have been swept down from the warmer waters from the north. We saw 88 turles in one snorkel. We've seen dugongs whilst snorkeling. We've seen tiger sharks whilst scuba diving and as always we've been privledged to swim with a number of majestic manta rays. We also came across a 124 year old shipwreck whilst diving which is guarded by a very inquisitive Potato cod! As always the crew has been working tirelessly looking after all our guests and in July we also welcomed to the team a new host...Bryony! We can't wait to taste all the delicious meals she has planned.
We could go on and on but the best way to get an idea will to be check out this short video slideshow and also stay in touch with us on facebook.

May 12th - Coral Garden Spectacular
The visibility was amazing, it would have been over 20m and with a low tide that morning the conditions were perfect. Sliding into the water from the tender all were instantly greeted by hundreds, if not thousands of blue green chromis dazzling above pristine staghorn coral fields. The next thing we saw was a shark....read the full report here.
April 2012
Our trips have spanned the southern reaches of Ningaloo and the Pelican Point Sanctuary up into the Cloates Sanctuary and Norwegian Bay where we visited ship wrecks and the remains of the historic whaling station.
We started out with glorious morning sails riding the fresh breezes before the day warmed up and the sun was high enough to enjoy the delights underwater. We even managed to see a whale shark one morning as we were sailing along…yet another first for Shore Thing! ....read full report here.

3 Day 3 Night Dedicated diving trip with Perth Scuba
The trip started off in spectacular fashion with the very first dive being a night dive and as the moon, currents, and water temperature all aligned the coral spawned. Some liken it to an underwater explosion of confetti but one thing is for sure it sets the reef running with a flurry of life as the coral spawn triggers a remarkable shift in the food chain that satisfies many marine creatures including the big things …. Manta Rays and Whale Shark!s .......read more
5 Day 5 Night Diving and Manta Ray Research
The conditions were ideal as our guests managed to dive with sharks and turtles on the first day, snorkel with at least 5 different Manta Rays and get to see some of their unique behaviours such as barrel rolling and surface feeding. We then snorkeled one of the crew’s favourite locations the North Reef Nursery, where a large marbled stingray being cleaned was the highlight….oh and a wobbegong shark! ..... read more
